01

The business problem

Creator channels operating on strict weekly publishing schedules struggle to find reliable production talent who understand YouTube conventions. Scoping, negotiations, and asset handoffs typically scatter across social DMs without structured agreements, portfolios, or clear expectations.

02

The challenge

The platform needed to balance open talent discovery with creator security: providing publicly accessible freelancer profiles and gig listings while keeping application exchanges, private communications, and moderation within a controlled, authenticated environment.

03

What we built

UNFLECT built a responsive web marketplace. Creators can publish project gigs and review applications, while freelance editors and designers showcase verified portfolios, manage incoming inquiries, and communicate directly.

04

How it works

  1. 01Freelancers build public profiles highlighting specific specialties (video editing, thumbnail design, script writing, sound design, motion graphics).
  2. 02Creators publish structured gigs with deliverables, timeline, and scope.
  3. 03Freelancers apply directly to open gigs through the platform.
  4. 04In-platform messaging keeps scoping discussions and negotiations in one place.
  5. 05Creators and talent can save and bookmark gigs for future cycles.
  6. 06Includes public reviews, user reporting, and legal compliance pages (terms, privacy, community guidelines, grievance redressal).

05

Notable decisions

  • Built with a responsive front end integrated with Supabase Auth and Database.
  • Implemented Row Level Security (RLS) policies to protect user accounts, private messages, and applications.
  • Designed for low latency across mobile and desktop workflows without bulky client-side bundles.

06

Where it stands

  • Currently in live early access at paperplane.buzz.
  • Freelancer registration, gig posting, application workflows, and messaging are operational.

07

What we'd do differently / next

  • Plan deeper portfolio asset ingestion (direct YouTube video embed verification) as user base expands.
  • Refine automated talent matching algorithms based on past completed gig categories.

08

Outcome

Early access; no outcome figures published yet. The platform is live and in active evaluation with early creators and freelance talent.
